St. Paul’s message today tells us that by endurance and by the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. In this day and age it is difficult to keep our minds and hearts on God, especially at this time of the year when consumerism Christmas is in your face at every turn. We are bombarded with messages of buying into this societal ‘ideal’ and it is not easy to ignore, and it is so easy to be tempted! What to do?
Here at St. Aidan there are many activities and liturgies in which to pursue a spiritual preparation for Christmas. Aside from Sunday worship here, various gatherings for tea, concerts and spiritual classes are offered. Tomorrow we celebrate The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and later this week we (as the universal church) celebrate another incarnation of Mary: Mother of the Americas, Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Blessed Virgin is the perfect example of endurance in all things, and we know how she, herself, was encouraged by Scripture. She is the model of this spiritual ideal—and our Church gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate this model of encouragement for us!
The Music Ministry has been hard at work preparing and practicing for the Advent and Christmas Seasons at St. Aidan. Our Advent Pageant: “The Reason for the Season” is next Sunday, December 14 at 4:00pm. This is our Christian Service Project for the Music Ministry. As entrance into our Pageant we ask for food (non-perishable) and/or funds to replenish our Food Pantry for Christmas giving. (After it was depleted from Thanksgiving.) The Adult Choir and our Contemporary Group are joined by children of our Faith Formation Program to celebrate the season with music, scripture, and a Christmas sing-a-long.
We hope you will find the time in your busy calendar to spend time in Church, at church, and that you come to the Pageant. This is endurance and encouragement for all of us, and this gives all of us hope!
Keep singing!
