Firstly, I express my gratitude to Fr. Kevin Thomas for his unwavering support of my ministry for the past sixteen years of his pastorship. That support provided the grounding for the various endeavors we have embarked upon and gave you the confidence to invest in them. May the Lord continue to bless Fr. Kevin in his leadership of St. Aidan’s.
Secondly, I am thankful to all of you. Iron sharpens iron; one person sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17). I am, in no small measure, who I am today because of your involvement in my life. I came to St. Aidan’s when I was twenty-seven; I am departing in my forty-ninth year of life. It is a privilege that I can say to others that the formation I received here at St. Aidan’s will benefit the Church elsewhere. Your love, patience, and support have allowed us to journey together as we plumbed the depths of our Catholic Faith and grew in our love of Christ.
My departure from St. Aidan’s is rooted in three key realizations: the need to continue growing spiritually, the gifts and talents the Lord has bestowed upon me have matured to the point where I can serve a broader field, and a desire for new challenges.
Paraphrasing one of my favorite saints, Thomas More, let us pray for each other that we may meet merrily in heaven. In the end, that is what this is all about.
The adventure continues!
