Participation

In the spring of 2026, middle school students who have been through at least two consecutive years of family formation will prepare for and receive Confirmation.

Preparation

*Sponsors (or a parent) will be asked to arrive around 3:30 for a portion of the retreat and transport to a nearby church for evening Mass.

Your Sponsor

There are two areas that must be considered when choosing a sponsor:

• Responsibility: The sponsor needs to be present during the time of preparation and certainly at the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation.  The sponsors present the candidates to the bishop for anointing and later help them to fulfill their baptismal promises faithfully under the influence of the Holy Spirit whom they have received (Code of Canon Law, # 892).

 

• Qualifications: To be a sponsor, a person must be chosen by the candidate; be sixteen years of age or older, a confirmed Catholic who has received the Eucharist and lives as a faithful Catholic (Code of Canon Law, #874).  The Church desires that, if possible, one of the baptismal godparents be the sponsor for Confirmation.  This emphasizes the close link between the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation (Code of Canon Law, #893).

Note: You should submit the full name of the sponsor to your catechist or our secretary in the Faith Formation Office as soon as possible, 734-425-9333.  Remember, your sponsor needs to be present during the time of preparation.
